Cyrano – Duel in Rhyme

I was recently contacted by someone who purchased my Cyrano for Kids and was a bit bummed that the Duel in Rhyme was not included. Unfortunately, I am under a strict word count, and some things have to go. This happened to be one of those pieces.

However (fortunately!), I can write a post here and share what he created and added to his script. And, as the playwright, I give full licensing to anyone who wants to add this—or any iteration of their own version—of a Duel in Rhyme.

So, enjoy Joe Long’s version of a Duel in Rhyme. And if you decide one day to create your own, I would love to hear it and possibly share it right here. Enjoy!

Lightly I toss away my hat,
Wrap my cape around my wrist –
Take out my sword to start our spat –
You may go first! Oh – WHOOPS! You missed!

Our swords are making a clinking noise –
So far you’re matching me stroke for stroke.
Poems and swordfights! Life’s little joys!
Watch out! When I’m done with my poem…POKE!

Last verse! If there’s anything left to say,
Say it now! Or it’s going to stay un-spoke!
You’re still trying to get me? No way!
The poem and the swordfight are over. POKE!
