Performance Rights & Licensing
First things first—thank you for considering one of my plays for your production!
Do I Need a Performance License?
Of course! But, if and how much you pay depends on how you’re using the play.
Pay What You Can Performances (great for educators!)
If you are:
- Performing for friends and family only
- Not charging admission
- Not accepting donations
- Not participating in a competition or festival
- Doing less than 3 shows
Then you qualify for my Pay What You Can licensing option.
Many schools, homeschool groups, and community programs operate on very tight budgets. I totally get budgets! If you can afford $50, wonderful. If you can only afford $0, fantastic! Somewhere in-between is amazing as well!
I believe theatre should be accessible to everyone.
(That said, this is also how I make my living, so any support is greatly appreciated!)

When Licensing Fees Apply
Licensing fees apply if:
- You charge admission
- You accept donations connected to the performance
- The performance is part of a competition or festival
- The performance is a fundraiser or donation event
One-Act Play Licensing
For a single one-act play:
- $50 per performance (1-3 performances)
- $45 per performance (4–6 performances)
- $40 per performance (7+ performances)
Multiple One-Acts in a Single Performance
If you are presenting multiple Playing With Plays titles during the same performance (for example, Hamlet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream under one ticket price):
- $100 per performance (1-3 performances)
- $90 per performance (4–6 performances)
- $80 per performance (7+ performances)
Full-Length Play Licensing
For full-length plays, licensing costs are the same as multiple one-acts above.
If you have something that lands outside of this, please contact me for a quote. I do my best to keep licensing affordable and work within your program’s budget whenever possible. I’m very flexible like that!
