Performing Shakespeare for kids Costumes and Props

The Tempest Thunder Sound

I have directed Shakespeare’s Tempest for Kids at least 6 different times, and the costumes and kids always change. But, one thing is consistent, the THUNDER TUBE! I use this great drum thunder tube by REMO to make all the thunder sounds during the play.

The kids LOVE it… so much that they want to keep playing with it, again and again…. just keep that in mind, as they will always want to play with it.  I typically have to keep it in my back pocket during the performance for 2 reasons:

  1. We don’t want it accidentally making the thunder sound (easy to do if you bang it accidentally!)
  2. We don’t want the KIDS to accidentally make some random thunder sound during the play! And yes, that WILL happen (been there, done that!)

Well, The Tempest is one of my favorite plays, because it includes all the greatness of Shakespeare: Language, magic, revenge, monsters, murder plots, fairies, a king, love, and a great storyline! There’s always a fun part for any kid to play in The Tempest for Kids!

You can find the Thunder Drum on Amazon here.
